Q. Why do people decide to build with steel framing?
A. Steel is a superior product for the long term; it is also light, strong, non-combustible, is termite and borer proof and will not shrink or warp.
Q. Won't a steel frame rust?
A. Our steel frames feature Aluzinc coating, a combination of Zinc's protection and Aluminium's stability to create a durable product. Plus by the very nature of framing the system has minimal exposure to aggressive environments. This is why we confidently offer a 50 year warranty on the steel.
Q. Can I add to my home in the future?
A. Steel framing is simple to make additions to your home. You can be confident when your home has steel framing it will still be straight and true years to come.
Q. Can I build with a steel frame in Cyclonic areas?
A. Yes! Steel framing is used extensively in these areas because of its inherent strength. Our design system can be adapted for cyclonic applications

Q. What do we do in the case of an uneven slab?
A. When dealing with an uneven slab SSHF offers two options to accommodate any variance in the slab;
- Option 1 You can pack the frame to achieve a level working surface
- Option 2 The screws that connect the bracing can simply be removed and the wall racked until level.
Q. Is it difficult to put in service holes?
A. Not only do our steel frames come pre punched with standard service holes, but given the right tools and simple techniques punching additional holes is easy.
Q. Is there an issue with handling electricity and steel framing?
A. Fundamental to the safety of steel and electricity is its natural property of conductivity. As the frame is earthed electricity is more likely to pass through the frame with greatly reduce dissipation.
Q. Will my cranage costs be higher?
A. There will be no circumstances where cranage costs will be more for steel framing – in fact the lighter weight of steel will in most cases reduce your cranage costs.
Q. Should lead flashing and copper pipes be isolated from a steel frame?
A. Yes! These materials should be isolated because in the presence of water these materials will develop galvanic cells which will result in rapid destruction of the protective metal coating of the steel frame. Copper pipes are easily isolated from the frame by using nylon grommets or face fixed to the studs using plastic clips. Both of these systems also resist water hammer noise.
